The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in implementing replay systems.
Video review technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.
Players will gain the ability to contest particular rulings from the official, following the practice currently in place at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This innovation will be operational on the main stadium and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This step follows just a year after the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding role of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Competitors cannot to challenge the call of the ELC system, but they can request the umpire to review specific situations, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a shot made contact with an rival's racket or body during play.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of reviews a player can request.
Practical Application
A recent incident occurred in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but thought his opponent had "played the rules quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and determined the player was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Additional Innovations
A further innovation at The Championships this year involves the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This solves situations where the crowd have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was out or in.
In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
